A superb example of Britains and the world’s first adhesive postage stamp used in a public postal system - the one penny black. This example has four good borders and a good red Maltese Cross cancellation. First printed in 1840. An imperforate stamp cut from a sheet, it has letters in the bottom corners only and a small crown watermark.

The second official stamp, a two penny blue imperf. First printed in 1840. Produced from Plate 1 or Plate 2 and without white lines. Cut from a sheet of stamps with letters in the bottom corners only and a small crown watermark.

The one penny red imperf. This stamp replaced the one penny black in 1841. This example has four good borders and a good black Maltese Cross cancellation. Cut from a sheet of stamps with letters in the bottom corners only and a small crown watermark.

The second type of two penny blue which has white lines below the word Postage and above the words Two Pence. Also an imperf stamp it was produced from Plate 3 or Plate 4. This is a particularly good example with four good borders. Cut from a sheet of stamps with letters in the bottom corners only and a small crown watermark. 1841.

A one penny red perforated stamp. This example is red brown in colour with letters in the bottom corners only and a small crown watermark. 1854-57.
